Listening Kinship – Workshop at Spreepark Berlin

Listening to other life forms may seem like a far-fetched task to undertake in the fight for climate justice. That is because the act of listening has been reduced to a futile act of romantic passivity by various forms of colonialism in urban contexts. Together with Spreepark Art Space we would like to invite you to participate and connect with us in the workshop Listening Kinship at Spreepark, a two afternoon-long workshop with artists Amanda Gutierrez (Mexico), Marcus Maeder (Switzerland), and Veronica Mockler (Canada).

We would be very happy if you have time to join our transdisciplinary collective to explore the consequences of listening and how we can better attune to more-than-human forms of life and community. Specifically designed with Spreepark’s soundscape in mind, participants and artists alike will together position their ears in relation to this teeming land, using walking exercises, storytelling, audio recording, and augmented sound geo-localization.

According to the artists, an ear that recognizes the history of the body through which it listens is an elemental step towards shaping future forms of living together. The third and last evening of the workshop will be reserved for the public presentation of an AR soundwalk led by both the participants and artists, based on findings, recordings and discussions from the previous two sessions.

Workshop Schedule: August Monday 28th – Tuesday 29th from 13:00 – 17:00 Public Soundwalk: August 31st from 17:00 – 19:00 Participation in the workshop and the soundwalk is free of charge. Workshop Language: English Registration: until Sunday, July 28th via Email: hello@spreepark-artspace.berlin Venue: Spreepark, Kiehnwerderallee 1-3, 12437 Berlin
